Welcome!
This site is meant to help language learners further their studies with Japanese.
One of the most important parts of learning a language is to study language in context. Reading articles, essays, short stories, and books are a great opportunity to see the context words are used in. Unfortunately, reading Japanese can be difficult for beginners (and even those with experience) to parse and read with any speed.
Vocab Legend was built with this in mind. For beginners, it can help finding where words start and end. I also hope it helps those with more experience who don’t feel like looking up tons of kanji just to read an advanced article or translate flowery song lyrics.
This site is built using Kuromoji for their awesome Japanese tokenizer, Wanakana.js for switching between kana and romaji, and Kana Tools for Java for helping with zenkaku and hankaku conversions.
And special thanks to the The WWWJDIC dictionary files by Jim Breen. These dictionary entries are what run the backend of this site and undoubtedly countless applications I’ve used in the past. Thanks Jim.
